The US embassy in Islamabad has apologized for sharing a Twitter post indirectly describing Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan as “the leader and dictator of the wicked”.

The US embassy retweeted a post from the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Ahsan Iqbal, on Tuesday evening, showing a screenshot of an article in The Washington Post entitled “Trump’s Defeat Leader of the Evil of the World.” And there is a setback for dictators. ‘With this screenshot Iqbal wrote: “We also have one in Pakistan. Iqbal’s lines clearly pointed to Imran Khan. The embassy post went viral within a short period of time and was vigorously rejected by supporters of the Pakistani Tehreek-e-Insaf party in Khan.

The embassy said on its Twitter account on Wednesday: “The Twitter account of the US Embassy in Islamabad was used without authority last night.” The US embassy does not support posting or retweeting political messages.
